THEORY AND APPLICATION OF LABORATORY INSTRUMENTATION-CHROMATOGRAPHY (GC AND HPLC), FACULTY OF FISHERIES AND FOOD SCIENCES, UMT

An internal course for FPSM laboratory staff for chromatography equipment was successfully implemented on 13 and 20 March 2024 at the Human Nutrition Laboratory, FPSM and the Analytical & Environmental Chemistry Laboratory, FSSM. In this course, the participants were given explanations related to the theory and application of Gas Chromatography (GC) and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) equipment and subsequently analyzed samples involving various oil samples (edible oil) for the determination of fatty acid methyl esters. (FAME) and drink samples for the determination of caffeine content.
The participants also learned how to integrate the data obtained from the analysis of samples and standards. Overall, this course has increased the understanding and confidence of laboratory staff to operate equipment in the laboratory.
